Semen Gresik and BPBD of Rembang Regency Strengthen Disaster-Resilient Villages in Rembang
Rembang, June 23, 2022- PT Semen Gresik (PTSG) collaborated with BPBD of Rembang and the Ceriwik Village Government to carry out the Disaster-Resilient Village Optimization activity in Ceriwik Village, Pancur Subdistrict, Rembang Regency. The activities, which were held on Wednesday (22/6), included the dissemination and simulation of disaster response, the creation and placement of disaster warning signs, the establishment of disaster alert posts, and the provision of early warning system tools.
The event was attended by the representatives of PTSG Management, Head of the Regional Agency for Disaster Management (BPBD) of Rembang Regency, Subdistrict Leadership Coordination Forum (Forkopimcam) of Pancur, Criwik Village Government, village institutions, community leaders, and religious leaders of Criwik Village.
The PTSG's Senior Manager of Communication & CSR Unit explained that the Disaster-Resilient Village Optimization activity constituted the company's commitment to supporting BPBD in accomplishing the mission of "The Nation's Resilience in Facing Disasters." He expected that this activity could increase people's awareness of the threat of disasters in their area and organize resources to reduce vulnerability and disaster risk.
"The company views disaster as not only a humanitarian issue but also an investment in future development. Therefore, there is a need for synergy in disaster management from all sectors of society. Semen Gresik has committed to take a role in this issue," said Dharma Sunyata in the press release on Thursday (23/02).
Sunyata stated that the MoU between PTSG and BPBD of Rembang Regency regarding the cooperation in disaster management efforts was signed in 2020. Criwik Village was then selected as the target of the Disaster-Resilient Villages program according to the results of a potential disaster risk assessment from the BPBD of Rembang Regency.
The Sub-Coordinator for the Prevention of BPBD of Rembang Regency stated that PTSG had assisted in the program. As the government agency in charge of disaster management, BPBD of Rembang Regency required assistance from many parties, especially PTSG. He expected that the collaboration between BPBD of Rembang Regency and PTSG could be maintained on an ongoing basis.
"BPBD Rembang requires assistance from business actors to educate the public regarding disaster mitigation. The role of PTSG is crucial in the education process to increase public awareness of disaster knowledge," said Yahya.
Disaster management activities are included in the Social and Environmental Responsibility Program (TJSL) of Social Pillar. This pillar aims to encourage the achievement of the fulfillment of basic human rights in a fair and equal manner to create prosperity for the entire community. Disaster management activities by PTSG have been carried out since 2017, including disaster response activities for COVID-19, floods, fires, landslides, and volcanic eruptions.
